Jack Hopkins writes:
“They want you to be tired….so overwhelmed…so emotionally numb that you don’t show up anymore. That you stop sharing. Stop voting. Stop reading. Stop believing. Because the second you do that….they win! They’re counting on your exhaustion.
Every great leap in history was made by people who had every reason to believe the odds were against them….but they showed up anyway.”
Your number #1 job: Show up anyway
On Saturday, August 2nd, Michael Baumgartner was scheduled to attend the Spokane Family Day event at Franklin Park, but ‘something’ must have unsettled him because he canceled. That "something" might be our community, persistently calling, showing up, and reminding him of the harm he is causing to his constituents in Eastern WA.
Last week many of our community resistance organizations came together to create a counter event at the park just down the street from the Family Day Event where Baumgartner was scheduled to attend. He isn’t showing up, but we are.
Unity on Division remains scheduled because we continue to choose each other.
Unity on Division: Spokane’s National Day of Action: Rage Against the Regime - August 2nd - BA Clark Park Corner of Division St and Garland St Spokane WA, 2:00 - 5:00pm - Stay peaceful, bring signs and persistence.
Spokane Indivisible’s Protest Team —WISE CATS ARE UP TO SOME GOOD TROUBLE:
COFFIN FOR BAUMGARTNER!
The resistance movement in Spokane is incorporating a new element -Street Theater.
Join us in creating a coffin symbolizing the cuts in programs that Baumgartner’s vote eliminated.
Mid-August with the date, time and location yet to be announced. A coffin will be paraded through downtown Spokane. Participants, dressed in black, will carry tombstones inscribed with "R.I.P." symbolize cuts to programs like Medicaid/Apple Health, SNAP, and ACA.
A bagpiper and a grim reaper will also join the demonstration. This event aims to shed light on the harmful policies Michael Baumgartner has endorsed, and the coffin will be delivered to his office by Faith Leaders in our community.
We need your input. Paper and pens will be available for you to write a note to Baumgartner, expressing your hopes and concerns for the future. These notes will be placed in a coffin, which will then be delivered to Baumgartner's office the following week, filled with your heartfelt messages.
