Spokane Indivisible Weekly Newsletter 3/24/25
Indivisible Mission:
Indivisible is a nonpartisan, national organization whose sole purpose is to
maintain and protect the democratic government of the United States as
laid out in the Constitution.
Indivisible was formed in 2016 during the first Trump administration as
events happened that threatened our government. We follow legislation, we
inform ourselves, we attempt to sort out fact from misinformation, we
communicate with our legislators, we organize. We are a community of
concerned, involved citizens who are committed to use peaceful means to
thwart threats to our government and our lives.
Together, we can champion our rights, freedoms, and democracy, hold our
leaders accountable to the peoples will, and inspire voters to make a
meaningful difference.

National Boycotts
Nestle’s Boycott -March 21 - 28

controversies surrounding its business practices. This boycott is part of a
larger series targeting companies perceived as rolling back diversity, equity,

National
On Thursday Trump signed an executive order to shut down the
Department of Education, following Project 2025’s blueprint.
Dismantling the Department of Education is a tactic to destroy democracy.
Every tyranny throughout history first steps is to destroy education. Why,
because to have a democracy the masses need to be educated, and not
because they are balancing the budget.
If you are a parent with a child in public schools, the loss is devastating.
1) 50% of educators will lose their jobs.
2) Special needs programs will be cut.
3) Title1 Programs will end. - Title 1 schools are institutions
that receive federal funding to assist students from low-income families.
This funding aims to bridge educational achievement gaps and provide a
high-quality education to disadvantaged students.
Spokane area schools receive nearly 20% of their funding from Federal
Programs

Taking Care
Spokane Indivisible agrees with Robert Reich as he writes:
“I know how hard it is to keep up your strength and determination in light of
the daily onslaught from Trump, Musk, and their horrendous regime.
…It’s devastating and depressing to witness their attempts to intimidate
lawyers, law firms, universities, the media, and every other institution of
civil society.
…Thank you for hanging in there, nonetheless — protecting those who are
most vulnerable, appearing at political town halls and demanding that
Republicans be held accountable, demanding that Democrats speak out.
…It’s also critical in these perilous times to know that each of us is not
alone — to feel the strength and conviction from being part of a community
that cares deeply about social justice, democracy, and the rule of law.
…And it’s important to speak out forcefully against Trump’s and Musk’s
cruelty and injustices. We cannot wait for the Democratic Party or its
leaders to speak out.
…Thank you for your activism. Thank you for your courage. Thank you for
keeping the flame alive.
Because of you, we will prevail.”

I’m an educator. We get the inside information. Not everything you read or watch is accurate.
I believe there is an incorrect statistic in the section about the Department of Education. I don't think 50% of educators are going to lose their jobs, it should be 50% of employees at the department may lose their jobs. I couldn't anywhere a firm number of educators that might lose their job because of the cuts.
