Two Quick Community Updates
1) Spokane Indivisible’s CAT-NIP Team (Community Action Team - Neighborhood Improvement Project) is gearing up to expand community gardens this summer.
Help Us Break Ground on Hillyard’s Newest Community Garden
This spring, Spokane Indivisible’s CAT-NIP team is breaking ground on something special: a brand-new community garden in Spokane’s Hillyard neighborhood! But we need your hands to help make it happen.
Growing food is a great way to support your community. Email Jenn at cat-nip-509@protonmail.com to get involved.
This is a collaboration between Spokane Indivisible and Growing Neighbors. Together, we’ll create a space where Hillyard neighbors can grow their own food and where our team will harvest fresh produce to donate to the local food banks and community.
We need a group of volunteers to help us with the initial stages of the garden set up.
1. Tear out sod
2. Build planter boxes and/or a small shed
3. Help set up drip irrigation
4. Help spread soil
5. Plant seeds and plant starts
No need to commit to all five — even a few hours on one task makes a huge difference. We’ll provide tools, water, and good company.
If any of these tasks seem like something you’d like to help our community with, please email Jenn Cole at cat-nip-509@protonmail.com. We’ll be setting up a work party in early May!
CAT-NIP will also be tending to the Unitarian Universalist Church’s community garden boxes again this year. If you’d like to be a gardener, please email Jenn Cole.
Can’t Volunteer? Here’s Another Way to Help
If you think this is a great food growing project to help our community, but don’t have time to help, please consider donating to help the garden flourish. Every dollar you donate helps us buy seeds, soil, and supplies. [Donate here]
Whether you swing a hammer, plant a seed, or chip in a few dollars, you’re helping feed and unite our community. We can’t wait to grow with you this spring!
Happy Spring and Happy Planting!
2) Help Save America and Prosperity Eastern WA Garage Sale
Friday May 8th and Saturday May 9th. 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM, 4505 S Pittsburg St, Spokane
What is SaveUSA and Prosperity WA? I’m glad you asked.
Both organizations are small, grassroots and rooted in the same mission: protecting and informing rural Eastern Washington.
Every dollar raised goes directly into the Rural Billboard Campaign, making sure people in small towns get the information they deserve.
Prosperity WA already has billboards in 10 Eastern Washington communities, and their next campaign is focused on something every rural resident should know about:
The possible closure of local hospitals and clinics — closures tied to Michael Baumgartner’s vote for the BBBillionaire Bill.
When hospitals disappear, entire communities lose access to care. Families lose stability. Seniors lose safety. And rural towns lose the services that keep them alive.
This campaign is about making sure people hear the truth before it’s too late.
No time for the garage sale? No problem.
If you believe rural communities deserve real healthcare, not closures, cutbacks, and long drives, you can support the cause with a donation here.
Enjoy Mother’s Day Weekend and don’t forget….
We have the power
