We Do, Due Process
Now is not the time to be silent
If you have every attended a 4th of July celebration, hung an American flag on your front porch, recited the Pledge of Allegiance, or felt pride in your country regardless of its flaws, we need you to stand up right now and speak out. We are in a constitutional crisis and it’s going to take every one of us to turn this around. I’m not the only one with this opinion, it is a wildly held belief.
The President of the United States is defying the Supreme Court ruling to bring back a man he sent to a concentration camp in El Salvador without due process. In this country we do due process. Our laws state “innocent until proven guilty” it’s a fundamental right. Everyone deserves representation.
Donald Trump is literally saying the constitution does not apply to him. These are the actions of a dictator.
If Trump can ignore the Supreme Court, snatch up people in the night and send them away to another country without due process, it can happen to anyone of us, regardless of our skin color, or our citizenship. You might say, ’but I am a law-abiding citizen’ so was the Abergo Garcia and according to 60 Minutes 75% of the people sitting in a El Salvador prison. Without due process any one of us who speaks out, disagrees or disapproves could be jailed in a heartbeat, without representation.
This is a pivotal moment in our history. Congress could stop Donald Trump’s constitutional dismantling. They could ban together and threaten him with impeachment if he doesn’t back off, but they are cowards, all of them.
We the people are not cowards. We have the power to stop this madness.
